French renewable energy generator Voltalia SA has announced that it is developing a new solar photovoltaic (PV) cluster with a potential capacity of more than 1.5 GW in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
Voltalia says it is developing the new Arinos cluster for itself and for third parties, having already established a number of partnerships. This includes a partnership with CTG Brasil, which intends to contract part of its capacity to CTG Brasil once the development phase of the projects within the cluster is complete.
The French company points out that the development of large clusters enables a combination of infrastructure, connectivity networks and maintenance. It has already set up two such clusters in Brazil - the 2.4 GW Serra Branca in Rio Grande do Norte and the 1 GW plus Canudos in Bahia.
Voltalia already has 688 MW of wind and solar power plants in operation at Serra Branca and is currently building a new 517 MW solar plant there, while in Canudo it has a 99 MW wind farm under construction.
