According to Reuters, the Prime Minister's Office said that Mr. Sunac will deliver a speech at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Egypt on the 7th, pledging to accelerate the UK's transition to renewable energy.
At COP27, Sunac will reportedly pledge to make the UK a "clean energy powerhouse", accelerate the transition to renewable energy and call on world leaders to accelerate the move away from destructive fossil fuels.
"We need a further and faster transition to renewable energy, and I will ensure that the UK is at the forefront of this global movement," said Sunnucks.
As previously reported, Sunac had indicated that "pressing domestic commitments" in the face of the UK's domestic energy crisis prevented him from attending COP27, but this has raised questions about Sunac's interest in this planetary emergency, with critics claiming he is passing up a great opportunity to speak to the likes of US President Joe Biden and European leaders. The decision was made on 2 February. Sunac finally decided to attend COP27 on the 2nd.
It is understood that the UK hosted COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, and Sunac will be urging leaders to keep the commitments they made last year. Sunac is said to be holding sessions on energy security, green technology and environmental protection, as well as hosting a seminar on forests and nature.
