French multi-energy group TotalEnergies SE has signed a preliminary agreement with generator General Electric Company of Libya (GECOL) to implement a 500 MW solar project in northern Libya.
GECOL said the solar park will be established in the northern region of Assadada and will be the first in a series of renewable energy projects to be implemented in the country to support its public electricity supply.
The preliminary agreement was signed on Tuesday (May 17) at the headquarters of Libya's state-owned power company.
The project is part of GECOL's partnership with the Libyan Renewable Energy Agency to boost the North African country's green energy capabilities.
Libya aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's electricity generation to 22% by 2030.
