The solar revolution is here: no planning required, surplus electricity realised and expenses reduced.
According to several Irish media reports, lawmakers will discuss the new measure, which is part of the Finance Bill, this week.
Ireland's Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage announced in October that planning regulations would be amended to allow homeowners to install solar panels on their roofs without planning permission. The new regulations allow homeowners to use 100% of the roof surface to install PV systems, compared to 50% previously.
Ireland supports rooftop PV installations operating under its net metering scheme through a rebate scheme. The scheme aims to deploy around 380 MW of solar energy.
