Greece To Install 888MW Of Renewable Energy in The First Half Of 2022

- Nov 15, 2022-

The survey shows a significant increase in the installed renewable energy capacity in Greece during the first half of the year, especially compared to last year.

During this period, 10MW of small hydroelectric plants were built, bringing the total installed capacity to 249MW; 7MW of biomass and biogas plants were built, bringing the total installed capacity to 102MW; and 10MW of cogeneration facilities were built, bringing the total installed capacity to 119MW. 10MW of cogeneration facilities, bringing the total cumulative installed capacity to 119MW.

Greece installed a total of 888MW of renewable energy generation facilities in the first half of the year. To date, the country has installed a total of 9,422MW of renewable energy capacity.

The country is on track to surpass the 10GW cumulative renewable energy installation mark, according to Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas, who said Greece aims to reach a record 2GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2022.

It is interesting to note that in the first half of 2022, the installed capacity of photovoltaic systems installed in Greece has already surpassed that of wind power facilities. In terms of installed capacity, photovoltaic systems, including rooftop PV, are currently the country's top renewable energy source.

Greece announced in October this year that its electricity grid will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources.
