Brazilian authorities awarded around 950 MW of renewable energy capacity in the latest round of auctions, including 183 MW of wind, 400 MW of thermal, and 189.5 MW of small hydro. The final average price for solar was $0.0376/kWh.
The Brazilian government's energy agency, Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE), allocated around 166 MW of photovoltaic capacity in its A-4 energy auction on Friday (May 27).
In total, EPE allocated around 950 MW of renewable energy capacity in the auction, including 183 MW of wind power, 400 MW of thermal power, and 189.5 MW of small hydropower facilities.
The five solar projects in this round of procurement are all located in the state of Pernambuco, with an average final price of R$178.24 (US$37.6)/MWh.
The selected projects will sell electricity on a regulated market under power purchase agreements with durations of 15 to 20 years.
EPE plans to hold A-5 and A-6 auctions later this year and has pre-selected 115 GW of projects. Solar is only eligible to participate in the A-5 round of procurement for the proposed project pipeline of 83 GW, which includes 55.8 GW of PV projects.
