AEP Unit Seeks License To Buy 999 MW Of Wind And Solar From Invenergy

U.S. utility Southwest Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) is seeking regulatory approval in three U.S. states to expand its portfolio by purchasing 999 megawatts of wind and solar projects under development by Chicago-based Invenergy LLC.

SWEPCO, a unit of American Electric Power Company Inc., said on Tuesday (May 31) that it is bidding for three projects in Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas that will It has been determined through a bidding process. The total investment in these plans is USD 2.2 billion (EUR 2.1 billion).

More specifically, the company is keen to buy the 200-megawatt Mooringsport solar project in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, the 200.6-megawatt diversion wind project in Texas, and the 598.4-megawatt truck wheel wind project in Oklahoma. project. While the diversion wind farm will come online in December 2024, the other two plants are scheduled to start operations a year later.

After obtaining state approval, AEP will seek approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to purchase the portfolio.

SWEPCO operates in northwestern and central Louisiana, northeastern Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and western Arkansas. In line with its renewable energy vision, the utility said it intends to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for additional renewable energy capacity in the near future.

AEP has committed to adding around 16 GW of regulated renewable energy capacity to its portfolio by 2030 and net zero capacity by 2050. (1.0 USD = 0.934 EUR)
